Purpose
Holton Sleaford Independent School (HSIS) delivers a unique and bespoke Outdoor Education based curriculum to Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5 pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH). The main premises for the school are in the heart of the small market town of Sleaford. The school offers provision for a mixed-gender intake of up to 82 pupils in the 9–20 age range.
The Holton experience aims to provide pupils with the skills and confidence needed to play a full and active part in society at the conclusion of their education. Learning to learn through Outdoor Education helps pupils build key relationships with our highly experienced SEMH staff, enabling them to progress towards their own personal academic and social goals.
“The heart of our offer is the desire to build Resilience, Confidence, and Self-Esteem in our pupils.”
Ethos
Outdoor and Physical Education forms the foundation of our curriculum. We believe that delivering these subjects through immersive practical experiences engages, motivates, and instils core skills that positively impact pupils both academically and socially. Pupils have the opportunity to gain nationally recognised awards in both areas, alongside experiences they would not otherwise have access to.
HSIS covers pupils’ core future needs through small-group, high staff-ratio classroom teaching of English, Mathematics, and Personal Growth and Wellbeing (PGW), all following clear pathways toward formal accreditations. A final key element of our curriculum offer is targeted work experience, enabling pupils to see a clear pathway to post-16 and post-18 life, put their developing social skills into practice, and test their readiness to take on active roles in wider society.
“Providing opportunities and experiences to better prepare pupils for life after school.”
