Our history

The Holton history

Holton’s proprietor, Luke Hollingworth, has always been passionate about working with pupils with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to give them a better chance in life – the chance that all young people deserve.

Having worked in the sector for over 20 years at various educational settings within Lincolnshire, in early 2020, Luke realised his dream of opening his own school, Holton Sleaford Independent School, with the help of his business partner and co-owner, Ray Wilbraham.

Luke says “The driver behind opening the school in Sleaford was to set young people up for life beyond learning, getting pupils ready for the world of work and placements as they move into adult life. Our Holton vision focuses on the personal and social development of pupils with complex needs first, and then we can focus on the qualifications and experiences they need to help them move on to employment.”

Luke and his Executive Head, Danny Laughton, set about developing their own curriculum based on what they have seen work in schools they’d previously worked in, as well as concentrating on areas they believed could be improved upon for the good of the young people in their care.

At the outset, whilst classroom work was geared around core subjects such as maths and English, there was a big focus on PE, sports, outdoor education and various trips concentrated around the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
