Outdoor Education is the main vehicle for curriculum delivery for our pupils. For many of our pupils, simply being in a school or a classroom is a massive challenge and can feel very threatening. Their experiences of mainstream school are predominantly negative, so many of them are not in a position where they want to learn – so at Holton we provide a new start with a fresh approach to education.
We know that Outdoor Education can be a vehicle for change, providing shared challenges, new experiences and fresh opportunities that enable pupils to build key relationships with help from our highly experienced staff team.
Our Outdoor Education covers sports, PE, outdoor pursuits, water sports, survival skills, bushcraft, climbing and more, but where we can, and when we need to, we take other elements of our curriculum outside too. We can often be seen teaching maths on a sports field, or English in the middle of the Peak District!
You can find out more about some of our recent trips and residentials here.
Experiences like this fishing residential are hugely beneficial. They support personal development, strengthen positive relationships between pupils and staff, and create lasting memories that can be brought back into everyday school life.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the residential such a positive and memorable experience. 🎣👏

Enrichment activities provide valuable opportunities for our pupils to develop skills and knowledge beyond the classroom. They support the achievement of school targets by building confidence, teamwork, communication, creativity and independence. By offering a range of engaging activities, pupils are encouraged to develop their interests, challenge themselves and apply their learning in different contexts! 💜
Bowling, walking and visiting the trampoline park are fantastic activities for our pupils, promoting confidence, teamwork, physical wellbeing and positive social experiences! 💜
